Tree Risk Assessments

Tree Risk Assessments are just that, an assessment of the health and structural integrity of a tree in question. When meeting with a professional regarding a tree or trees on your property, you will almost always receive a basic assessment communicated verbally. Sometimes, however, a more thorough and well-documented assessment may be required. The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) has worked with arborists around the globe to provide a defined and organized method for assessing and documenting the risks a tree may pose. There are multiple levels of assessments that can be done, which depend on both the needs of the client and the depth in which a tree must be examined to better define the risks assigned to any targets lingering below. Most often in a residential setting a Level 1/Limited Visual Assessment, or a Level 2/Basic Assessment will be sufficient for defining tree risk. Level 3/Advanced Assessments would likely be reserved for high-value trees or in municipal settings with strict codes regarding tree preservation.

Reasons for Tree Risk Assessments

  • Safety concerns: Risk assessments are almost always a product of concern(s) regarding a tree that poses potential threats to an assortment of targets below. Homeowners, business owners, or municipal officials may find themselves troubled with a tree, or part of a tree for various reasons. That’s when a professional is called out to determine whether or not there is indeed an associated risk.

Our Approach

Tony’s Tree Service is owned by one of the very few ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessors in the world. Risk assessments serve a multitude of purposes and range from very simple procedures to extremely technical and in-depth processes. The chosen method depends on the needs of the client, the potential risk level, the value, and the location of the tree. At the end of the assessment, you will receive a report with detailed findings, a risk rating, and mitigation options as well as a residual risk rating and post-mitigation process. If you're not sure if you need this for your trees—or you’re just curious to know more—simply ask. We have more work than we know what to do with and will never create more for ourselves by selling unnecessary services. However, we do find it important that our clients have knowledge and information accessible. It’s true that a well-informed tree manager is an excellent tree manager.

“After buying a place with trees that had been neglected for over a decade, we entrusted Anthony and his crew to do a major pruning . He took the time to check out the job in advance, provided a bid—as well as explained why and how he could best get these trees back into shape—and explained our required after care. They arrived on time and even sent a confirmation of their arrival . We are so happy with their work . Anthony and his crew were professional, checked in with us as the job progressed, left our place spotless, and came in under his bid when he presented our itemized bill.”
