Stump Grinding

Not every stump needs ground following the removal of its upper half. Some people like a stump for flower pot pedestals or other artistry, while some prefer to replace the stumps with lawn or flower beds. Others find a dead stump unappealing and have them ground as a preference or necessity.

  • Utilization of space: Building or landscape construction often demands a stump be removed.

  • Aesthetics: Some people find a stump poking out of the earth to be unsightly and annoying.

  • Obstruction: Stumps may act as a tripping hazard or interfere with mowing, driving, or play areas for kids.

  • Municipal code requirement: If you remove a tree in a city right-of-way, the City of Baker requires the stump be removed and a suitable tree be planted in its place.

Our Approach

The process is fairly simple when it comes to grinding a stump. We have two different pieces of equipment to choose from, and the choice of equipment depends upon the size of the stump and our access to it. Whether you have a stump remaining from a tree we removed, or one lingering from a tree defeated at the sharp edge of your great-grandfather's ax, we are equipped to eliminate it. We will take care of requesting any utility locates while working diligently to protect your structures from flying debris throughout the process. The standard procedure is to rake all the grinding back into the hole once we are finished with the stump grinding process. If the stump was of substantial size, it would likely be a large pile of grindings, taking up more space than it previously inhabited. Some clients will use them in flower beds or as compost in their gardens. During the consultation is a great time to express your needs and/or wants so we can do our best to meet them.
